Simon knows who is popular with the demographic that his label will be trying to sell music to, so he pretends that they are better than they really are to create the illusion that they have found "a superstar". Phenoms, like Carly, need to be attacked and brought down to ensure that the obviously inferior performances of the chosen aren't overly scrutinized. At the end of the day, it is reality TV. Shocker eliminations make very good television, even if the cast isn't as good afterward.

matters9319, you have the right to express you're opinion, which obviously those lame archie fans cant handle, you have potential, trust me friend, lots of us noticed, simon was actually harsh on contestants who he thinks is not 'marketable' in other words, who has the less votes in which archie/jason/brooke have this advantage,so, simon was easy on them, if you watch the show often, you would know that simon only favored marketable contestants not 'talent',in w/c cook has both talent/popularity
